LAURA MJEDA ČUPERJANI (1971, Belgrade) graduated from the Department of Composition and Orchestration at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, in the class of professor Srdjan Hofman. Laura began her pedagogical work at Music High School "J. Slavenski" in Belgrade and later at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade as an assistant at the Department of theoretical subjects. She has been working at the Academy of Music of Juraj Dobrila University since 2007 and as an assistant professor of the Course of Harmony, Arranging for ensembles and Basics of composition. Laura was a Head of Music Pedagogy/Education Department since 2013. -2017.
Laura's composing opus comprises of works for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, orchestral works as well as music for theatre and multimedia projects.
Her works have been performed in Croatia (Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split, Karlovac, Varaždin, Rijeka, Daruvar, Pula, Opatija, Poreč, Brijuni, Osijek) as well as abroad (Vienna, Moscow, Geneve, Verona, Bari, Trieste, Essen, Klingenthal, Seul, Melbourne, Prag, Sofija, Odessa, Kiev, Vilnius, Gdansk, Mlawa, Paris, Washington, Ljubljana, Belgrade, Skopje, Podgorica, Prishtina, Argjiro).
She has participated in many events, festivals and projects: Music Festival Opatija/Pula/Osijek, Festival Heferer Organ, Podium International Festival of Chamber Music (Brijuni, Croatia), International Review of Composers - Novi Sad/Belgrade, Festival d'Autan (Brassac, Francuska), Festival "Mediadance International" in Paris, International Festival Argjiro, Two Days and Nights of New Music – Odessa , Days of the Ukrainian bayan and accordion Kiew, The International Festival of Contemporary Music Remusica in Pristina, the Project - Days of accordion “New Waves” (Ljubljana, Trieste, Helsinki, Pula), VaClaF International Festival of Chamber Music (Vareš, Bosnia), Festival of Croatian Music in Vienna, Project “Unknown Musical Worlds – Women Composers from Former Yugoslavia” by University of music and performing arts in Vienna, Festival of Contemporary Music “The Days of Macedonian Music in Skopje”, BUNT festival in Belgrade, Contemporary music cycle “Predihano Concerts” Ljubljana, Chamber Music Festival in Pula, International festival of contemporary music Remusica in Prishtina. She participated as the resident composer of the Podium Festival Brijuni / Fažana (2019). She exhibited at the Panel "New Works" organized by SOKOJ - Music Information Center of Serbia in Belgrade (1998), at the First International Symposium of Music Educators in Pula with the theme "The concept of teaching harmony in education of a music pedagogue" (2009), at the Second scientific/artistic conference of assistants of Juraj Dobrila University in Pula (2010), at the international scientific conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the death of Paul Kupelwieser as well as at the 15th Days of Music Theory in Zagreb.
Some of her pieces were published and recorded.
The score of Art song Hiža was published in the collection “The See" (Croatian Contemporary Composers Edition) as well as score of work Disaccordion for voice and accordion (separate edition) and Becoming in the collection Anthology of accordion works by Croatian composers (University of J. Dobrila in Pula).
Published works on CD-s: ReMiniScences for piano (Cantus d.o.o.), Concerto for guitar and chamber orchestra (Composers Society of Serbia), Strinx for string quartet (Cantus d.o.o.), Tuga and Horn Play (Cantus d.o.o.), Horn Play for horn and piano (Project XII x II, Istrian County) and The Moments (Metamedij). Video from the TV cycle "Diploma Exam" was created by production of the RTS Music editorial in cooperation with the Theater of the Movement MIMART (Belgrade, Serbia).
Laura is co-author of the manual “Harmony on the Piano” published by University of Pula.
She received various awards: award "Vasilije Mokranjac" for the composition Concerto for a guitar and a chamber orchestra, a special award for original music for choreographic project Masses / Boulders in collaboration with the Theater of movement MIMART, University award for exceptional contribution in Academy of Music of the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula and award for contributing in development of Music Pedagogy/Education Department on Pula Academy of Music.
Laura Mjeda Čuperjani is a full member of the Croatian Composers' Society and a member of Croatian Society of Music Theorists.
